How many of y'all have ridden the Blue Ridge Parkway/Tail of Dragon area?

A few years ago I attended a Meet and Greet in Waynesboro. Here's the agenda I made that we loosely followed.

I would definitely recommend making this trip at least once, the scenery and roads are fantastic. I had the benefit of doing with a group that knew the area. Got to meet and ride with @GARider on that trip.

We road to Mt Mitchell the first full day there. To me it's a must do. A few pictures of that day.

Day two we stopped at Wheels thru Time.

If you like looking at the history of Motorcycles, this is a must stop.

Then we went to the beginning of Tale of the Dragon.

Here's the video pulling in.

We chilled there for a while then road the Dragon. While the Dragon is a great road to play road racer, the scenery is blocked a lot from trees and over growth. I've mellowed with age, still like a spirited ride, but actually enjoy riding and enjoying the scenery. Here's a recap video of trip.

If you have ever ridden this area, post your experience.

Looking at those dates, we just missed crossing paths by 2 weeks. I was there earlier in that same month.

This one I didn't get a good shot of what I was going for. You have to expand the pic to see the sign inside the square. 😆

Had a blast, sure glad I went.

My first truly long distance ride was the Dragon in 2013. That began my quest of riding in all lower 48 states. After my little group of 3 finished the Cherohola Skyway we went down to Atlanta to visit a friend of one the riders. There was a wet, cold front headed for us from the west so we continued south till we ran out of land before heading back to Texas.

It wasn't until 2018 that I did the Blue Ridge Parkway on our way back from Maine.

This is the cabin we stayed in the night before we headed down the Tail. Frost on the ground and all dirt and grass to get back to the road. Three of us in that little cabin with only a space heater to heat it.

And then, of course, is the Tree of Shame.

So, you haven't been there yet to leave your mark?
Didn't leave any marks. I stayed in Maryville while I was there and met a cool HD rider. I'm not sure what modal he had, but he couldn't do The Dragon without scraping exhausts even going slow. He was from Wisconsin and had a thick accent that sounded like what I heard in the movie Fargo.
That's the cool thing about The Dragon. The atmosphere with all the riders in the area from all over, and not actually about the ride itself.

I have ridden the BRP a few times and Skyline drive many more. Maggie Valley is another great place to stay for incredible rides in that area.

This is just off Skyline on RT 211 in VA.
