Historic building have always interested me, especially Court Houses. Riding into a town that is the County Seat means there's some kind of Court House that I will find and admire.

Let's get out there and see how many Country Court Houses we can get.

Another nice touch would be posting a small history of Court House.

Almost all if not all town squares in Texas has a courthouse.

So, 687 court houses in the US. Couldn't find a number of Canadian ones, but let's say a few hundred. Round that all to 750. Let's see how many we can get a picture of.

The StarBiker forum scavenger hunt target awhile back was a county courthouse, so I went out one day and found a few. Not the best pictures in the world, at least partly because I included the bike for the scavenger hunt. So, I can add 4 court houses from that adventure, but don't have any special history for them.

The Polk County one looks like a plantation home. Would be interesting if the architect had a mansion building background.

Stumbled on the Jasper County court house quite by accident. If you can zoom in close enough you'll see the whole building is covered in strings of white lights, from roof to ground. Wish I would have seen it at night, probably make Clark Griswold proud. As usual, winter sun is glaring in the direction I want to look.

My next mapping project will be the federal court houses that @lesblank mentioned earlier in this thread. Initial research is showing that many of them are no longer standing and some have been repurposed to other projects or entities. I will differentiate between them with the word “Old” before the name.

This the link for the United States Court Houses map. I was able to locate 637 of them. Have fun finding them. Several places have a number of Old and Current courthouses that are near each other and may appear as one Icon. Zoom in to locate them.

Galveston County Courthouse. Pretty utilitarian looking building, but they've had their fair share blown away with hurricanes. This one looks pretty sturdy.
