For those not familiar I will give a quick history. Back in 1981 a group of 25 friends met at a pub in Port Dover Ontario Canada on Friday Nov 13th. (Port Dover is a small fishing town on the shore of Lake Erie about an hours ride from me.) A great time was had by all and they decided they should do this every Friday the 13th no matter what.

They did. Others joined and now attendance well exceeds 100,000 bikes in a town with a population of 6000. I think the last time I was there in 2018 they were expecting 200,000.

In 2023 there are two Friday the 13th - January and October. Yes there will be some bikes there in January.

Here is the website:

It is Les. If you don’t get into town by 7am there will be a mile long line of bikes waiting to get in. Very friendly atmosphere and the whole town actually changes its bylaws for those weekends to accommodate handling that many people. I won’t go in January as it is too sketchy to ride on sport tires when it is that cold but I intend to go in October and will report back if I do.

Oh, that is a thought I have had many times! There are some really good videos of ice racing. As kids we used to put sheet metal screws in our motocross tires and go play on the pond when it froze over. By pond I am talking about 150 acres of smooth ice. It was an absolute blast.
Been there as well…sometimes we would file down the head of the screw to a point…
I miss that sound…..

Were you part of the 25? This is a great read. Amazing how this turned into something so big.

No, I wasn't one of the original 25. I have been part of the 150,000 on a few occasions though.
