Good day my fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. I am Boog and have been riding since 1980 at the age of 15, when I bought two 1967/8 Ossa 250 Enduros to race on the local Texas Panhandle circuit. I got my "M" endorsement a year later when I borrowed a buddy's big brother's CB400 to take my test on. I remember the police officer saying, "Are you sure you want to take this test on such a big bike"?
Since then, I joined and retired from the US Navy and have had 32 machines in my stable over the last 42 years. I currently have a 2022 Road King I named Rex, a 2014 Triumph Rocket III Touring I named Brahma which has 89K miles currently and about to undergo a heart transplant. Also, I have a 1982 XS-650 sitting awaiting a new ignition and wire bundle. Evidently these things only last 41 years or before they go bad.
I cannot call myself a mechanic. I am more of a professional breaker of electronics and mechanical devices. I learned that skill set as a helicopter sensor operator while in the Navy.
I have seven kids between the ages of 40 and 26 and nine grandkids from 19 to less than 1. The three youngest sons ride bikes. And one of my grandsons has a mini-bike down in Florida. He has asked his dad for a real dirt bike. I love this kid!!!
As for the brands I like the most, I can't say that one clearly is number one for me. I look back and see I have had a lot of Hondas and Yamahas. I am more of a lover of two-wheels than a brand loyalist. I can have a blast on almost any motorcycle. I chose not to ride dirt bikes anymore though. The last one I had (for 12 painful years too) was a 1978 Honda CR500. No matter how many offroad crashes it withstood, I could not destroy it. In the end, riding it for half a day took two weeks to recover from. I finally sold it in 2006. Gosh what a strong machine that one is.
Speaking of crashes, I have been afforded the opportunity to crash street bikes twice; 2006 VMAX and a 2002 FZ1. From these two mishaps, I feel safe in saying they hurt far more than they appear to on TV. I recommend leaving that to professionals.
Here are my current bikes. First is Rex. I call him that as he is a Road King...
And Brahma. So named due to being somewhat of a bull.
And Buzzy. He got that name when my Pretty Pillion went with me to buy it. She was following me home on the freeway and said it sounds like a bunch of angry bees.
Well, that is me for now. I am happy to be here and hope to help bring a bit of fun and smiles to the group.
